Past Global Changes (PAGES) builds international and interdisciplinary collaborations among scientists studying past changes in the Earth System in order to better understand global environmental change in the past and future. There are a number of upcoming opportunities for getting involved with PAGES programs and members.
1) Host the PAGES OSM/YSM in 2017
We are calling for expressions of interest to host our 2017 Open Science Meeting (OSM) and Young Scientists Meeting (YSM). Held once every four years, the OSM/YSM is the premier event in the PAGES calendar and provides an invaluable opportunity to bring the past global change community together from around the world to share, discuss, learn, and plan for the future. To submit an expression of interest, please submit a document (max. 4 pages) briefly outlining how you could meet the draft bidding requirements. At this point it’s not necessary to answer everything in detail but rather give our Scientific Steering Committee enough detail to decide if a full bid should be invited. Please email your expression of interest to Thorsten Kiefer at firstname.lastname@example.org by 12 June 2015.
2) Apply to become a PAGES SSC member
PAGES is calling for applications from scientists to serve on its Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) from 2016. Following a first round of nominations earlier this year (which will remain in consideration during this round), the SSC decided to modify the application procedure from solely passive nominations to a process that permits self nominations. These changes were made both to encourage highly motivated scientists to step forward and to diversify the applicant pool in order to achieve a broad disciplinary and geographic balance on the SSC. This means any interested and suitable individuals are now welcome to apply themselves. The next deadline for consideration by the EXCOM is 12 June 2015.
3) PAGES working group proposal call
Propose a new PAGES Working Group by the 12th of June to address a scientific question in an internationally coordinated way. Ideas for WGs under the Human and Environment sectors of our new science structure, or groups that connect with Future Earth or WCRP are particularly encouraged in this round.
4) PAGES meeting support deadline
PAGES offers the opportunity for meeting support under three categories of workshop: Official PAGES Working Group, Educational, and Open Call. The next deadline for applications is 12 June 2015. Guidelines for meeting support can be reviewed online.
